Albright College

One of my jobs during the summer is working at Albright College as a Conference Assistant. As a Conference Assistant, we serve as liaisons for the college for the conferences and camps that utilize Albright's facilities during the summer. Though we [the student workers for conferences] only moved in about a week ago, we have not had any camps or conferences yet at Albright. This past week has served as a "training week," so that we can be prepared for when camps and conferences are held at Albright this summer

We did however help the City of Reading hold "Youth Fun Day" yesterday at the Shirk Stadium/Life Sports Center. This day was a "field day" where the young students from the Reading School District were able to participate in games, relays, and other fun activities.

It was an exciting day for all. The participants as well as volunteers from the City and camp counsellors were at Albright for about four hours playing soccer/dodgeball/volleyball, shooting hoops, throwing footballs etc. What was the best is even as conference assistants we were able to participate and have fun with the kids.

It's always neat to see what a big difference volunteers and donations can make on a person's lives. Every kid that I saw was having a blast, smiling and laughing throughout the day. The Youth Fun Day is not only a great experience for these kids to meet other people in their community but is a great way to introduce them to a collegiate environment and to let them know that there are many great institutions of higher learning right in their own backyard.

That's all for now. I'm sure I will have plenty of interesting stories when camps and conferences come to Albright.
