Such a fun week!

So I'll admit I wasn't in classes one day last week (GASP).  But, I had a good reason.  I was invited to attend an event that I learned about from my January internship.  Not just any speaker.  As you know, my major is biochem, but music is also one of my passions.  The speaker, Dr. Richard Kogan, was a psychiatrist with his M.D. from Harvard Medical School.  He also studied piano at Juilliard.  He uses his knowledge as a psychiatrist to understand the composers he's performing at a level unparalleled by most other performers.  This event focused on Beethoven, with him performing one piece from Beethoven's early, middle, and late periods, and also describing Beethoven's life around the times he composed each of the pieces.  I am simply blown away by the technique and power Dr. Kogan possesses, and my new goal is to play with the dynamic and touch range that Dr. Kogan uses.  My first test of this will be April 14th, when I play two duets at the student recital.

I could talk about the performance for hours, but I'll spare you this time :P. After the performance, I went to a power networking lunch, where I met a lot of local business men and women and exchanged some numbers.  I'm still on the lookout for a summer biochem/medical internship opportunity, so an event like this was great to get my name out there!

My weekend consisted of an open house on Saturday, and then a Mane-gels performance in Lancaster.  We did so well, I hope we keep the sound we made on Sunday when we perform from now on!

I'm not in the library this time, this blog is my study break in between two essays I have to write for Friday, but I figured I'd change things up a bit and work in the Science Center.  I'm on the third floor though, so maybe I just like studying on the third floor of buildings...idk.
