Time is flying by, literally flying. There is not enough time in the day to get done all that I want to get done. Good news…I was elected as the 2012-2013 President of Albright’s Student Government Association. After spending one year as the Executive Vice-President it was a natural progression, and I see it as an exciting new challenge. We are in the midst of election season with our members at large already selected and our special organization representatives currently running. I’m excited to say that next year’s SGA will have six swimmers on it (out of 13)! I think I am starting an “involvement” trend among the swim team and it is really exciting. I have always said that one organization or affiliation should not define you and your entire life here at Albright. It is a school where it is extremely easy to be involved in many different aspects of campus. It not only enriches your college career but makes it all the more enjoyable.
We are also in the process of looking for someone to replace our former Assistant coach/aquatics director Cindy Barner. Our head coach put together a small group of swimmers to meet and eat lunch with some of his top candidates. Today was our last “interview,” and so far I have been very impressed. It will certainly be an exciting venture next year with whomever fills Cindy’s deep void in our program. The fact that John (our head coach) was willing to set this up and listen to our opinions speaks volumes about his style. I’m glad I was able to be a part of the process and to have a coach that is willing to not only respect us but listen to his swimmers as well. Last open house on Sunday; I hope to see lots of juniors there!!
