I've been to graduations, air band competitions, championship basketball games, and presidential inaugurations at Albright; however I think the International Student Dinner I attended last night may have been my most enjoyable Albright function EVER! The cafe was packed! I'd estimate 600 students, faculty, and employees and their families attended. Not only did I get to try some food from different countries (cooked by the students from those countries) but we also watched ISA member perform songs, dances, and skits. ISA President, Mr. T addressed the crowd, "try something new, you may not think you like something because it looks different or doesn't smell the way you imagine something good should smell, but you should try it, try something new". What great advice for anyone at anytime. The skits the ISA students put on were about funny situations that happen to them because of the barriors that exist between cultures and sometimes because of ignorance. They were very enlightening and I think went a long way to tear down the walls that exist between American and international students.
What made the night even better is that I took my 6-year old daughter. She danced to Korean music and couldn't stop saying "Konnichiwa" to everyone on her way home. She did not take Mr. T's recommendation when it came to food, only trying an Indian brownie. We'll have to work on that next year.
