Albright College

Job Searching at Albright might take me all the way to China!

Last week, I was invited to go to a dinner with the board of trustees. I attended and speaking with alumni of Albright as well as trustees who hold stake in Albright's participation in the community, made me realize that graduation is coming... and fast. Yes, I still have a semester to go along with an interim I'm taking (The biology of first aid, that might actually come in handy one of these days as I am a very clumsy person), but I should have an internship lined up for the upcoming semester and hopefully have my foot in the door at a company so I can get my career started. When people say senior year is hard, believe them. The school work is not bad, but all the time that I once had to lounge around in pajamas in my dorm is filled up with studying in the library, working at the gym, or walking my dog. Last night was the first time I actually had a moment to myself. After watching Justin Bieber on youtube about twenty million times (ok, he's a bit young, but boy can sing!), and watching Troy Polamalu's advertisement for nike's fate commercial about 10 million times (Love the Steelers and especially love me some Troy), I decided to use some of the resources Albright's Career Development Center offers. I was looking for internships and after my roommate came home from working in the Digital Media lab, we both saw a job posting for careers teaching English in China, Japan, or South Korea. As I'm an international business major, this immediately caught my interest. I <3 everything about Japanese culture and I have many friends who are from South Korea here at Albright. They offer great pay, the cost of living is cheaper down there, but we still get paid decent money by American standards, especially along with the fact that one is provided a furnished apartment. If I apply and work in China, I can even get my masters in International Relations. Honestly, I'm pumped, but scared too. I'm worried about the culture shock, one never realizes how American they are until they head to another country. No one around me will speak the same language so what if I get lost? A year is a long time. I'll be 21 when I graduate though, this may be the best time for me to live outside of the country and get the experience I need. My feelings right now =jittery, excited, nervous.
