So the summer has been relatively uneventful for me, but it's been quite enjoyable. This is my first summer staying up at Albright because usually I'd go home. I have to say I really like it. I just moved into my new apartment and although it needs some work done to it, it's so close to campus, I can't complain!! It’s crazy how a job on campus can completely change your outlook on yourself and the things you do. I can say that even though I’ve played sports before, I’ve never been really what you’d call athletic. In fact, if I could have one of those scooters like they have in Mall Cop, I’d be the first to ride around on it. Getting sweaty to me was just… ugh, so annoying. I am a girl though, so who likes getting dirty? But since I’ve been staying here and since I spend my life at the gym since I’m the fitness room attendant, I’ve found that taking the time to workout seems not so bad anymore. Everyone around me is lifting weights and pumping iron, plus with the TVs in the gym having ESPN on pretty much 24/7, it becomes hard not to feel the energy and want to get up and run!! So even when I’m not working, I’ve found myself at the Schumo center working out. I still get grossed out when I’m running and I feel a drop of sweat running down my back, but I figure, if I’m going to sit at home and watch TV, I might as well go the gym and jog on the treadmill and watch TV… you know, kill two birds with one stone. Plus since I work there, I pretty much know everybody (the regulars at the gym all talk to me, lol, I know their kids, their hobbies, and I’ve even met my postman here!) so it’s like my new chill spot too, lol. Alison (the Schumo director) is really big on fitness, not so much on looking a certain way but just being healthy… kind of reminds me of Oprah and her whole mantra about “living your best life” (ok, I admit, I watch Oprah… but its on one of the TVs, it’s like a car accident, I can’t look away, haha). Plus it’s true what they see about running that stuff really does make you feel good once your done (although I’m not sure if it’s because of the endorphins or how happy I am to feel my heart settling down in my chest rather than trying to rip out of it, haha).
I’m going home this weekend for 4th of July and I’m wishing I could take the gym with me. With the music fest that I’ll be going to in Harrisburg by the river (which includes funnel cakes, sausages, and every type of oh-so-good-but-so-bad-for-you popcorn) I could use the center to run off all the celebrating I’m going to be doing about our rights to be free. Anyways, everyone out there, enjoy the holiday and be safe!!
Note to self: remember to check mail at the campus center before you leave.
