Hello All!
We recently had a short break, Tyler mentioned that his was too short, for Easter. We had Friday and Monday off. I did not go home for break, I stayed in the dorms. None-the-less, my break was neither lonely or boring.
My two best friends, who are both in the Navy stationed with Marines in Camp Lejuene, North Carolina came to visit me for the weekend. They arrived Friday night and left Monday morning. We had a blast! They met many of my friends who stayed for the break as well, so my old friends got to meet my new friends! I was very excited.
It was Easter Sunday and we woke up very late. We started to think about breakfast around 12:30 in the afternoon. Jake and Val (the Navy men) and I were having breakfast with some of my residents who were also in the dorms over break. So we started to make breakfast. French toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon! I was really excited for bacon, it is my favorite breakfast protein. And yes, I understand that is not good for you...
So Jake, myself, and my resident were in the kitchen. I looked up and realized there was a lot of smoke in the kitchen, so I started to try to get ventilation going in the kitchen of Walton. It did not work. The fire alarm started going off, so I grabbed Val, who was still in bed. Grabbed my phone and pass-key to get back into the dorm and got some jackets, because it was going to be a bit chilly. (This is NOT what you should do when you hear a fire alarm, you should immediately leave the building!) I went back to the kitchen to make sure the stove and oven were turned off and I went outside. There was a total of 12 people in the building who were all standing there, chilly, looking at me as I called Public Saftey to let them know what exactly was going on. I did not want to make them worry. By now it was about 1:30 in the afternoon. The Public Safety officers, the residents, my friends, and I stood by as we watched the Reading Fire Department check the building. Public Safety was laughing at me, so were the residents. They were all laughing that the Resident Assistant, the one who is supposed to keep watch and check up on everybody and everything, was the person who had set off the fire alarm. Granted, no one was in danger, we had only burned some bacon trying to make a family meal for the Easter holiday. It was humiliating, and ironic. Even I laughed, at myself.
We succeeded, however, we made the bacon in the microwave, and later on made chicken parm. with Jake's mother's recipe. The food was delicisious and we had a blast hanging out in the kitchen telling stories and talking about what our mom's made back home. Later on we gathered with an even larger group and spent the night in the pressence of wonder company.
My weekend showed that even when almost no one is at Albright, interesting things always happen, and there are ALWAYS fun people to meet and spend time with. I cannot wait for the next Easter, maybe I will make my mother's famous Easter Bunny cake!
I hope your weekend was lovely, and you are all enjoying Spring!
