Africa's full of surprises!
It occurred to me while I was laying in bed last night that I haven't really talked about how different it is here than what I expected. So here goes nothing: Contrary to popular belief, we are able to get hot water for showers. Sometimes the water pressure cuts out, or the water is actually scalding hot, but I guess I shouldn't be complaining :) The land is not too dry and open as you'd see on Animal Planet or the Discovery Channel. It's actually full of hills/mountains and it's green for…

Taking some time to recover.
So after putting on an awesome show at the Silo nightclub this past friday, it was time to finally get my impacted wisdom teeth out that I delayed for as long as I could. Unfortuently the impacted teeth had began causing improper jaw alignment in my mouth, which was causing stress on my vocal chords. In a addition the swelling had made it nearly impossible to lift my soft pallet making it nearly impossible to switch into head voice. With this being said I had my surgery yesterday, and im…

Hi, how are you? Yes, it's nice to meet me!
Haha What better way to start a post introducing myself than by titling the post with a Nicki Minaj Lyric?!
My name is obviously Andre' and maybe not as obviously I'm coming up on my senior year at Albright. You may be wondering, "how did they keep him there so long?", well let me answer that question for you: I am an Albrightian. Yes, you heard that right, this community is a family and that's how they got me to come back multiple times.
I am a senior fashion…

Getting Lost and Toilet Paper
I just reached Hong Kong, and so far everything was going smoothly, in terms of language, transportation and overall living in a new country. Everything was going fine, up until the moment that I decided to, before my internship officially started, venture out and explore Hong Kong on my own. Before I had left to "venture out" I had gone out to buy some necessities for the apartment, like a hair straightener, towel, etc. However, as hard as I looked, I couldn't find, for the life of me,…

Im currently entering into the year as a sophomore ready and willing to help at any point an time. So. Surreal.
I have had the best past couple of days ever.
First we paired up and were sent away to do "homestays" with different families in the area. I was brought to the home of Mama Happy. She put us to work right away- we did laundry (by hand), dishes, cleaned walls, swept (using a tree branch), and cooked. She was the sweetest woman and I'm so glad I was able to meet her. Being with her for a whole day and living how she does put so many things in perspective for me. People always say "don't…

AHH! Tanzania!!
So sorry that I haven't been able to write! The internet here is sort of bad, I mean I am in Africa. But, yes, I have arrived safely, even though my luggage arrived 2 days after I did. That was an adventure.. luckily I packed my carry-on well so I had enough stuff to last me for those two days. So far I have seen every animal that appears in the Lion King and I have learned a lot about human-wildlife conflicts. Conserving the wildlife is a huge thing for Tanzania because the tourists that…

Trying to find a job in this economy is definitely not something easy, even if its just for the summer. We all know a lot of people or at least have family who know a lot of people. The BEST resource to find a job is USING THE PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW. Tell everyone that you know, uncles, aunts, cousins, neighbors, parents coworkers, EVERYONE that your looking for a job. More than likely they know of a job or of someone who knows someone with open positions somewhere. Apply as fast as you can…

Summer Internship at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library
This summer I am interning at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library which is part of the Washington Centers Competitive Government Program. The process of applying to the program is not as straight forward as the regular Washington Center internship program. When I applied to the regular program I was chosen based on my resume as one of the students to compete in the Completive Program, this required me to have several phone interviews with different NARA branches across the…

Harmony Almost Done!
After today I am very happy the harmony is almost done. I managed to finish two songs today that seemed to take forever to find what notes would work and not leave the range of the singers I am writing for. Luckily there is only one song left to finish, and its a duet for a male and female singer. This will be interesting since im going to be working with a larger range. Once this song is finished I will have to find a female vocalist to sing on the album.

Internship Updates
Summer is speeding by!! Important news…less than two weeks until my birthday, my 21st birthday! My friends are busy making plans so I’m sure it is going to be a great time. There are tons of places to go in Reading that are pretty close to the school. My internship is going well. Lately I have been doing a lot of organizing. Home Owner!!!
AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so excited to move into my house for next year! I have been out everyday looking at furniture and other stuff and I can't help thinking about what I will need for the house and what would go where. I know it sounds weird but after living two years in the cramped dorms, I am going to be doing somersaults and cartwheels through my front door. I am living with all my roomates from last year and one other person. We have a nice house right on 13th street so…

What's Up Summer!?
Wow I cannot believe almost a month of summer has already gone by! Seems like it is flying! But before I start telling you about all the exciting things I'm up to I should probably start by introducing myself. I'm Kari and if I could I'd shake your hand but you'll just have to settle for this greeting and hopefully I'll get to meet you in person at an Open House or on tour sometime! I just started as a baby…

Berks Salsa Fest Scholarship Reception
On Friday, June 8th, I had the pleasure of attending the Berks Salsa Fest Scholarship Reception at the Inn at Reading in Wyomissing. Only two short weeks ago, I learned of my status as winner of the First Berks Salsa Fest Scholarship! I was quite overwhelmed and honored to be chosen by an organization that shares my same views on community, education, and the arts.
I had an opportunity to speak with the Board of Directors and other lovely people involved with the…

A few more hours!
So I'm sitting here in the Nairobi Airport in Kenya, just waiting for my flight to leave to get to Kilimanjaro Airport, then I have a car ride to our camp. This is the first time I've had internet access, but I'm not able to upload my pictures just yet. We went to London yesterday and saw the Buckingham Palace and St. James Garden. Both were absolutely beautiful!!! The flights have been soo long and exhausting, all I really want to do is sleep. I'm still in the process of learning everyone's…
