Faces - If you could take any January interim trip or an Alternative Spring Break trip, which would it be? Or have you already?

I was never able to take a trip over interim because of swimming, but being able to get ahead on classes during that time was the best decision I ever made! I loved both of the courses that I took and they helped me to stay on track and give my schedule more flexibility. I would highly suggest either taking a class or going on a trip. Its a great time to do something out of your comfort zone, especially if you are thinking about going abroad this would be a good time to figure out if it is something you love to do! If you would like to know more about interim I would be glad to share what courses are offered and what kinds of trips are taken.
I never wanted to leave campus, but if I could muster up the courage to go I would choose the Ecuador interim trip. As an intern in college relations, I had to interview students about this trip as well as faculty and nothing but exciting things were said about it. I loved how also Albright students donated school supplies as well as raised money for a semi industrial over for the school in Ecuador which is extremely underfunded. It seemed like the students learned a lot and came back better people for it.
Permalink Reply by Jesse Grieb on March 28, 2012 at 10:47pm The Albright Mane Men and Angels just had a Spring Break tour that included Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and in a trip further than we've ever been before, Florida. I have to admit, Florida for Spring Break has always been a dream for me. Better yet, I kept a daily blog for College Relations, recounting every day's journey and experiences. The blog is available at http://albright.edu/springbreak/choir.html. I'd have to say that was my dream trip, but if I had to choose something with a more academic rather than extra-curricular focus, the whale watching interim class in Hawaii has always really piqued my interest.
Permalink Reply by Erin Kelleher on March 29, 2012 at 5:43pm I wish I would have went to Camp Boggy Creek. I've heard amazing stories about this Alternative Spring break trip, but I went home my freshman year and RA duty the following years. The kids have life-threatening illnesses or disabilities, and everyone who went on the trip came back with changing perspectives on life, youth, and health in general. As someone who wants to be a physician and possibly work with kids, I think this is a great opportunity!
Permalink Reply by Matthew Bauer on March 30, 2012 at 10:37pm Similar to Katy, I have never really been able to travel over Interim because of our crazy busy swimming schedule during that time. However, I have always wanted to go to the one that goes to Hawaii!! Students can take their lab science for three weeks down in Hawaii studying whales in their natural habitat. I only hear great things about this trip. Professor Green has done a lot of research and work on saving whales and every year she brings students along to help her help them. That would definitely be the trip that I would want to go on! It is Hawaii after all!
Most college students plan on taking trips to the Caribbean during their spring break or just go home to get away from school. If I did not have family obligations to take care of most of the time, I would have loved to go down to Camp Boggy Creek and be able to have an impact on the lives on the kids that I could work with. All of my friends who have gone on the trip say that it is a life changing experience and makes you appreciate all the things you have in your life and that you can even breathe on your own. I always love talking to Mike from the Cafe after he comes back from the trip because its a place he can always let loose and just be a kid again and I think that's something that we all need a reminder about every once in a while. If I ever have the opportunity to go on a trip like this again, I will definitely take advantage of it!
Permalink Reply by Mike LaRosa on April 9, 2012 at 10:00pm If I could take any trip over Interim it would be the trip to Hawaii. I think that this trip is always one of the more interesting ones offered because from what I have heard it is different then all of the other classes. This is because although there is some lecture from what I have heard the majority of the class is doing research on the migration patterns of Whales. Not to mention Hawaii would be pretty awesome to be at during the coldest month of the year.

Permalink Reply by Kyle James on September 7, 2012 at 9:34am I would definitely pick to take an Alternative Spring Break trip again. I took one last year and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I went down to New Orleans and volunteered at a Head Start program where I helped the teachers in the classroom. It was simply amazing. The group that I went with were great and I got to know my classmates even better. I can't wait for this years trip!! If you have the opportunity to go on an Alternative Spring Break trip, I highly recommend taking one.
